Electroslag remelting arc initiator is also called conductive slag, arc initiator slag and ignition agent, and its form is mostly block. As an arc starting material for electroslag remelting, it is widely used in the production of ordinary electroslag furnace. Commonly used electroslag remelting arc initiators can be divided into carbon arc initiators and titanium arc initiators.
Mechanism:
In the process of arc starting and slag melting in the ordinary electroslag furnace, the current is scattered and not concentrated in the cross section of the the arc starting end of the self-consuming electrode, and the heat energy generated cannot be dispersed to melt the slag material in a short time. Since the unmelted slag material is not conductive, the insulation arc break is caused: the irregular discharge of the current at the arc starting end of the self-consuming electrode is easy to cause striking and damage the base. As a conductive ignition medium, the electroslag remelting arc initiator is placed between the self-consuming electrode and the bottom pad on the base of the electroslag furnace, and it can burn itself or release resistance heat through current conduction to achieve the purpose of forming a small-scale slag pool in advance.
